I began my career with the 2004 release of my debut rock album, The Firebard, recorded in my home studio, The Firebard Studios. The album received good reviews and airplay in Canada, Australia, and the United States, and earned me endorsements with Peavey, Alvarez Guitars, and Morley Pedals. By year's end, I recruited drummer Jeff Moos to help me perform locally, and a bassist and guitarist joined long enough for several shows in 2005 before they left.
While searching for replacements, Jeff and I finished the second rock album in the summer of 2006, accompanied by session bassist Dave DeMarco. I was also invited to perform in the local All Star Jam at Sonar in Baltimore, but it was becoming clear that local venues didn't support instrumental rock. After just a few shows in early 2007, the second line-up, which included James Goetz on guitar, disbanded.
By the summer of 2007, I released Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid and resumed playing acoustic guitar after a nearly ten year hiatus courtesy of tendonitis. The writing of more songs for the Serenade of Strings album slowed when I formed an Iron Maiden tribute band (Seventh Son) with Dave DeMarco and James in late 2007. Much of 2008 was spent getting this up to speed while finishing Serenade of Strings' demos.
Jeff and I recorded the album in 2009, with my parts once again recorded at home. During mixing, I included an original classical guitar piece that I recorded with 18 others back in 1995 after my degree. This prompted the release of those 18 as an additional album called The Lost Art. Both discs were released together in the summer of 2010.
Before being an instrumental guitarist, I always wanted to be in a twin-guitar metal band and have now returned to my original love by forming a band called Z-Order, which you can follow at the official site. The debut album was written and recorded between 2008-2011 and will be the first with vocals on 11 of the 13 songs. James Goetz has joined as the drummer and Dave DeMarco is back as bassist (I'm doing all the guitars myself). The first singer abruptly quit midway through recording his parts, in early 2011, so Z-Order is still looking for a replacement and the album is on hold despite all backing tracks being recorded and even mixed. As a final note, Z-Order's debut album was initially intended to be my 5th release, but since I want to continue releasing instrumental albums, this has changed and you'll see some references in the news section to the 5th album having vocals - this is no longer true!
With Z-Order on hold, I resumed working on instrumentals and am wrapping up the NEW 5th album! It's a return to rock instrumentals and 2011 has been spent recording voraciously. I learned to play drums starting in 2010 and will now be the entire band on all subsequent instrumental releases.
